The Prefecture of Drama gives us the chance to wander through unique spruce forests, to enjoy the monuments left to us by mother nature (caves, gorges and so on), to trek in the mountains or climb mountains or cliffs, to walk along cultural routes by visiting Byzantine and Post-Byzantine monasteries and churches, archaeological sites and local museums, to attend popular cultural events and take part in local church festivals or artistic happenings.

Within the modern city of Drama the visitor can discover, with a pleasant sense of surprise, that certain parts of Drama have withstood both time and change, giving us an idea of how the city must have been in olden times when the community consisted of peoples from many places and many religions living together in a human mosaic which has left its mark on the city's monuments.

The prefecture of Drama is very close to two of the most important archeological sites of Macedonia, Fillipoi and Amphipoli. It's also very close to the island of Thassos, the only island of Macedonia. You can easily plan daily excursions to Drama and to the other surrounding Prefectures, if you are staying at Thassos. You can combine the holidays on a beautiful island and you will also have the opportunity to see more sights at the mainland which is very close to Thassos.
